Manichithrathazhu 1993 malayalam film directed by Fazil, written by Madhu Muttam featuring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Shobhana, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent in lead roles.  The story is based on a tragedy that happened in the Alummoottil tharavad, a central Travancore family, in the 19th century. The film dealt with an unusual theme which was not common in Indian cinema at the time. A part from being the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, Manichitrathazhu is considered as one of the best Malayalam films ever made.It ran for 365 days in theatres. Manichitrathazhu was remade after 10 years in four languages. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Shobhana was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Ganga / Nagavalli.

2. EZRA (2017)


Ezra is the highest grossed film of 2017 directed by Jay K features Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Priya Anand in lead roles. The film based on a Dybbuk Box, the Ezra's soul covered on that box and makes troubles and scary to Ranjan Mathew and his family. Ezra one of the best horror flick the mix of a good cinematography, background score etc. The film grossed ₹500 Million from box office.



Moonnanathoral is a 2006 horror thriller film directed by VK Prakash.It Stars Jayaram, Jyothirmai, Samvrutha Sunil, Vineeth in lead roles. I don't know why the film unmarked on the theatres. Its a good - engaging thriller film, the story line revolves a haunted Bungalow Jeeva, Jayaram's character find out the mystery behind bungalow. The investigation leads him into the unknown realms of the bungalow's shady past, unravelling a forgotten history, thus leading to a startling realisation of who the "third someone" is.

4.  WINTER  (2009)


Another Jayaram Psychological Thriller film, Winter directed by Deepu Karunakaran, Stars Jayaram, Bhavana in Lead roles. Its my favorite horror thriller film, when i first time saw this film on tv scene by scenes appear i disappear from the tv side. It's the story of a haunted villa and its mysterious incidents. 



Akashaganga a good horror thriller directed by Vinayan, features Divya Unni and Mukesh. The movie screens scary horror effects, the story revolves Maanikasseri family and the house haunted by the Yakshi Ganga. The movie was a commercial success. The second part of the movie "Akashaganga -2" released in 2019 is not up to the mark of the original version.



It was the first horror film of malayalam. It stars Premnazir, Vijaya Nirmala, Madhu in lead roles. The film directed by A. Vincent, written by Vaikkom Muhammad Basheer adopted  from his own short story 'Neelavelicham'.The film depicts a compassionate relationship between a talented novelist and the spirit of a beautiful lady who had been murdered. The novelist is writing the story of this lady, into whose house he has moved in as tenant. 



A musical mystery horror film directed by Sibi Malayil with the star cast of Mohanlal, Jayaparada, Vijayalakshmi, Vineeth Kumar and Murali in lead roles. The story written by Raghunath Paleri, The songs composed by Vidhyasagar. Music is the keynote of the film, the plot follows Vishal Krishnamoorthy, who was expelled from college accusing of playing a prohibited musical instrument called Seven Bells, which he denied claiming the instrument played by itself. The incident destroyed his career. Years later, he receives a letter from his college principal inviting him to direct a musical play for the present students. An initially reluctant Krishnamoorthy returns to unravel the mystery of the Seven Bells. The film win 3 State Film Awards including best Music Composer.



It's a 2005 dark fantasy film based on the same titled novel by Sunil parameswaran. The film was directed by 
Santhosh Sivan as debut venture. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manoj K Jayan, Kalabhavan Mani, Kavya Madhavan in lead roles. The role of Digambaran and its performance, played by Manoj K Jayan noticed by the audience. The story revolves in Sivapuram a rural village, believes, the ghosts, spirits, and black magic. The film got five Kerala State Awards.

9.  YAKSHI (1968)


It is the first psychological thriller in the history of Malayalam cinema. Directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and written by Thoppil Bhasi, based on Malayattoor Ramakrishnan's much acclaimed novel of the same name. It stars Sathyan, Sharada, Adoor Bhasi, N. Govindan Kutty, Bahadoor, Ushakumari, Sukumari, Rajakokila and Radhika.



Kalliyankattu Neeli is a 1979 Indian Malayalam horror film, directed by M. Krishnan Nair and produced by M. Mani. The film stars Madhu, Jayabharathi, Jagathy Sreekumar and Sudheer in the lead roles. The film has musical score by Shyam.



Aparichithan is a 2004 horror thriller film directed by the debut Sajeev Sivan. It starrs Kavya Madhavan, Karthika, and Manya in lead roles. Mammootty appeared in a cameo role.  The movie plot centres around Ouija Board and Spiritualism.

12.  LISA (1978)


Lisa Considered one of the best horror and musical flicks in Malayalam, with music by K. J. Joy. The film directed by Baby. The star cast was Premnazir, Jayan, Bhavani, Jayabharathi. 



Megasandesam is a 2001 Indian Malayalam-language horror film directed by Rajasenan and starring Suresh Gopi, Rajshri Nair, Samyuktha Varma and Napoleon. This film was dubbed in Tamil as Rosy.

14. VEENDUM LISA (1987)


Veendum Lisa is a 1987 Malayalam horror film. It is a sequel to the 1978 film Lisa. The film directed by Baby. It features Jayarekha, Nizhalgal Ravi, Manorama, Shari ad lead roles. The film was released in Tamil as My Dear Lisa.

15. INDRIYAM (2001)


Indriyam is a 2000 Indian Malayalam horror film directed by George Kithu. The film is about a group of college friends who go into a haunted forest, with Vani Viswanath, Vikram, Nishanth Sagar, Boban Alummoodan And Lena appearing amongst others in the cast.
